Preparing for your surgery
You’ll need to complete several tasks once your surgery is scheduled:
- Complete your presurgical physical: Conducted by your primary care doctor, this physical should occur 30 days before surgery.
- Assess your medicines: You and your doctor will discuss the medicines that you may need to stop taking before surgery.
- Provide pre-surgery information: A nurse will call you two days before your surgery to collect health history information and provide additional surgery instructions.
- Do not eat after midnight the night before the surgery: Your stomach must be completely empty during surgery, but you may drink clear liquids up to two hours prior to arriving for surgery.
- Arrange transportation: You may not drive for at least 24 hours after surgery, so arrange to have someone drive you or accompany you on a ride service.
