Types of pain we treat
We treat a wide range of pain conditions, including acute pain, chronic pain, back and neck pain, musculoskeletal pain, nerve disorders, sports injuries, neuromuscular pain, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, pre- and post-surgical pain, headaches and more.
Acute pain
Acute pain describes short-term pain that’s caused by something specific – usually an injury or surgery. Acute pain generally lasts less than three months, and often goes away on its own. We encourage people to stay active during episodes of acute pain, such as acute low back pain, as motion can be helpful in returning to function sooner.
Chronic pain
Chronic pain is an ongoing condition that doesn’t always have a specific cause. It can be caused by an illness or injury, however someone can suffer from chronic pain without a history of either. Nerve pain, back pain, fibromyalgia, headaches and migraines, arthritis and other chronic conditions are linked to chronic pain. Chronic pain conditions can impact multiple areas of your life, including work, school, personal relationships, daily activities and mental health.
Common symptoms of pain
Pain can have more symptoms than just a body ache. Here are some of the most common symptoms of acute and chronic pain:
- Persistent muscle tightness and soreness
- Fatigue
- Mood effects – anxiety and depression
- Poor sleep
- Pain that affects your relationships
- Weight gain
